Hi, I’m Miss Leayah!
I was born in Quebec but my journey led me to Toronto when I was in grade 5, where I attended French elementary and high school.
I obtained my Bachelor of Social Work at Ryerson University and then completed teachers college at Tyndale University.
Along my teaching journey, I have had the privilege of teaching at a number of French Immersion schools in-person as well as virtually. While teaching in these spaces, I noticed a common challenge that the majority of my french immersion students faced, which perpetually kept them achieving below their grade level: effective reading comprehension skills.
French Immersion Reading Hub was birthed for this very reason. My goal was to support students whose parents could not help them with improving their reading comprehension skills at home due to their own limited French skills.
It is my desire to see all french immersion students excel on their French learning journey by setting a solid foundation of thoroughly developed reading comprehension skills. Within this goal, I strive to empower non-French speaking parents through coaching sessions and parent support resources. .

French Immersion Reading Hub is a virtual tutoring academy that offers sessions to French Immersion students from grades K - 6. We specialize in literacy and reading comprehension in French.
We believe that reading comprehension is the foundation for learning in every subject area. It is essential for student success in school as well as life in general.
We implement reading comprehension strategies using the four pillars of reading comprehension: knowledge, language, fluency and metacognition
Knowledge
Activation of prior knowledge through context connections and personal experiences.
Language
Awareness of language structures and specific vocabulary.
Fluency
Ability to accurately decode a text using phonemic awareness.
Metacognition
Engagement and monitoring of active reading strategies while reading.

Yes. At French Immersion Reading Hub, we cater specifically to students who are already enrolled in and attend a French immersion School.

No. At this time, French Immersion Reading Hub’s tutoring services are currently only offered virtually.
